Following a coaching session in Capitol Hill's Volunteer Park, McDonald was demonstrating the incredible capacity of the human foot to adapt to its surroundings and the manner in which his feet have responded to barefoot running -- by developing a... The coaching sessions are a large part of McDonald's current life as a quasi-guru of barefoot running, a sport that is receiving more and more attention from mainstream audiences. He started training in traditional running shoes but found himself in pain when he ran. McDonald and his girlfriend, Leah Kangas, a massage therapist and jewelry designer, live within running distance of the park. Not just any feet, but those of Ted "Barefoot Ted" McDonald, Seattle's celebrated barefoot runner. "Your feet are the greenest, most sustainable kind of footwear you will ever find," said McDonald, following a recent coaching session in Volunteer Park. The sort of feet that can lead a revolution in barefoot running. McDonald, 45, is a California native who was born to a family that restored vintage carousels.
